Description

The War Memorial at St Peter's Church in Streatham is a significant structure commemorating those who served in the First World War. It features a Calvary cross with a bronze depiction of the crucifixion and a bronze INRI scroll. The cross is mounted on a tall wooden shaft, which is set on a pentagonal stone plinth.

The front of the plinth has an inscription that reads: "THIS MEMORIAL / WAS ERECTED 1921 / IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / THE MEMBERS OF THIS / PARISH AND CONGREGATION / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / FOR THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE WAR 1914-1918 / MAY THEY REST IN PEACE." The other four sides of the plinth list the names of the Fallen. The memorial is situated on stone paving slabs arranged in a pentagon, surrounded by small hedges and wooden posts that support a rope, all placed on a circular brick podium.
