Description
This is a late 19th-century pair of houses, built in an irregular picturesque Art and Craft style, located on Thornlaw Road. The houses are constructed primarily of stock brick with red brick dressings. The majority of the first floor is tile-hung, featuring bands of both plain and decorative tiles. They have high-pitched slated roofs and prominent chimney walls. One gable end is over a projecting east bay, while a hipped roof covers a narrower projecting bay located nearer the west end. The houses are two storeys high with six bays in total. Their irregular design and varying window sizes demonstrate a desire to express building function externally. They feature small-paned casement windows, as well as red brick quoins and bands. Number 4 has a tiled covered way supported by wood, leading to the entrance. Number 6 has a porch with an elliptical gauged brick entrance arch and an outline pediment above; from the pediment, a ramped wall rises to the projecting tower bay. An original coach-house is located at the right, and a modern garage extension is on the left.
