Description

This is a stucco villa built around 1835, located on the southwest corner of St Michael's Convent, formerly known as Park Hill. The villa has two storeys and a sunk basement, featuring five windows on the south entrance front. It is adorned with pilasters and entablatures on both floors. The sash windows have moulded architraves with cornices above; the ground floor windows are supported by console brackets with Greek fret friezes and vermiculate aprons. There is a prostyle porch with paired Ionic columns, which is now glazed in. A classical porte-cochere was added in 1880.

The west front consists of three bays, with a wide central bow that has screens of Ionic order on the ground floor and near-Byzantine order with square columns above. There is balustrading between the columns and swags over the first-floor windows. The long ground floor casements are accompanied by two flights of marble steps flanked by naturalistic crouching lions, and there is a patterned wrought-iron grille for the basement.

Inside, the villa features a rich interior with original plaster cornices decorated with Greek and classical ornamental motifs, as well as enriched ceilings and woodwork. The hall includes a screen of two Doric columns, while the stairwell has a curved staircase with a cast iron patterned balustrade. The first floor is surrounded by a screen of square columns, topped with a light featuring patterned coving and a band of figures above the first-floor entablature. The inner hall has pilaster bay divisions and an entablature, similar to the main west room, which includes an Ionic screen to the bow and a carved marble fireplace.
