Description
The Lodge in the grounds of Villa at St Michael's Convent, formerly known as Park Hill, is a lodge built in 1870 for William Leaf of Park Hill, replacing an earlier lodge likely designed by J B Papworth. It is constructed in a classical style, featuring stucco with a hipped slate roof and two cement chimneystacks. The building is single-storey with bays on the south and west sides. Each return has double square pilasters of the Tuscan order, with an incised frieze above the west bay. Most windows, except for the one to the left of the door, are late 20th-century replacements set within the original moulded architraves. The front door is also a replacement. The lodge includes a cornice, band, and plinth. Facing the door is a stone or plaster panel that displays the date 1870, William Leaf's monogram, and the crest of the Leaf family, along with the motto "Folium non defluet" (The leaf does not fall).
