Description
The Chapel of the British Home and Hospital for Incurables was built in 1913 by E T Hall. It is a single-cell chapel featuring narrow passage aisles and an outer section to the north. The structure is made of soft red brick, with simple double chamfers on the arches of the lancet windows. Inside, the three-bay aisles have gently pointed arches supported by tall square compound piers. There is a west gallery, which has a delicate wrought iron railing resting on solid scalloped triangular brackets. The chapel has a barrel-shaped roof that is panelled and painted above a shallow chancel. Notable interior features include good ironwork and a handsome brass eagle lectern. The exterior also showcases red brick, with stepped and angle buttresses, and a high-pitched tiled roof with tall gable ends.
