Description

Elderwood is an early to mid-19th century range of stock brick buildings, extending over a considerable length, and arranged in slightly differing planes. It comprises six sections containing 3, 6, 3, 6, 6, and 10 windows respectively. The third section from the left appears to be the oldest and slightly projects forward, featuring stone quoins, a first-floor band, and the main entrance. The roofs are slate, with some being low pitched and others of a moderate pitch, all incorporating eaves soffits and a stucco cornice. Windows consist of sash windows with glazing bars on the right-hand side, and longer casements with transoms elsewhere, all with arched brickwork and stucco-lined reveals. A round-arched carriage entrance, with a rusticated stucco panel, is situated in the right-hand section. The main entrance, dating to around 1900, has a semi-circular pedimented hood supported by freestanding Tuscan columns, above a double door with sidelights and a fanlight. To the left is a projecting wing of a similar date, with one tall storey and a rounded hipped gambrel roof, featuring sprocketed eaves broken by tall windows. Behind this wing is a hip-roofed building in the general style of the rest of the property.
