Description
The Church of St James is a church built between 1844 and 1845, designed by Lewis Vulliamy. It is constructed of gault brick with stone dressings. The main elevation faces along Addison Avenue, creating a symmetrical appearance that closes the vista. The church is designed in an Early English/Geometrical style, featuring a central tower with a four-light window and an entrance below, along with a parapet and pinnacles. There are gables on either side for the aisles and lancet windows in the clerestory. The chancel is short and low, and there is a subsidiary entrance on the western side. Inside, the church has tall iron Gothic piers and plays an important role in the planned layout of the area.
