Description

This is a row of houses, numbers 7 to 44, forming part of the large Royal Crescent dating from 1846. They are constructed of stucco and extend over three main floors, with an attic and basement. Each house is two windows wide. The ground floor is rusticated, highlighted by a single three-light sash window and a fluted Doric columned portico with steps leading up to it. A triglyph frieze and mutules decorate the façade, with iron railings above the porch extending along a stone-based balcony. The first and second floor windows are framed by architraves and cornices. A dentil cornice runs above, leading to stucco attic windows set within band surrounds. The building is finished with a cornice and blocking course, though cornices are missing from some houses. The ends of the crescent feature round towers with smaller inset round towers above the attic level. The houses are set within a significant architectural grouping with numbers 1 to 22.
