Description

The arcade, built between 1839 and 1840 by Benjamin Baud, forms the northeast quarter of a circle and avenue in Brompton Cemetery. It features a round-arched rusticated stone design with a brick back that is intended for the installation of memorial plaques. The arcade projects forward at intervals, supported by Doric columns. There are flights of steps leading down into the catacombs at the center of the quadrant and avenue ranges. Additionally, it includes cast iron gates adorned with symbols of death. This structure is part of a cohesive layout that includes the chapel and other arcades.
