Description

The arcade, built between 1839 and 1840 by Benjamin Baud, forms the south-western quarter of a circle and avenue in Brompton Cemetery. It features a round-arched rusticated stone design with a brick back, which is intended for the installation of memorial plaques. The arcade projects forward at intervals, supported by Doric columns. There is a flight of steps leading down into the catacombs at the center of the quadrant. The structure includes cast iron gates adorned with symbols of death and is part of a cohesive layout that includes a chapel and other arcades.
