Description
The tomb chest of Valentine Cameron Prinsep is located in Brompton Cemetery and dates from around 1904. It features a stepped plinth topped by a chest made of pink marble, supported by eight columns. The chest is intricately carved in high relief with figures in a 14th century style, set within a colonnade of cusped ogee arches, with the spandrels above pierced with quatrefoils. The plinth is adorned with circular bronze plaques surrounded by bayleaf garlands. Prinsep was a notable painter, a professor at the Royal Academy, and a writer.
