Description
The Tomb of Frederick R. Leyland, located in Brompton Cemetery, is a tall and slender structure made of Portland stone. It stands on short Romanesque piers that feature cushion capitals and is topped with a copper roof designed to resemble fish scales. Each of the four sides of the tomb is adorned with low-relief floral scrolls in copper. On one of the long sides, raised lettering reads: "Here lies Frederick Richards Leyland sometime of Woolton Hall Liverpool / and XLIX Princes Gate Born September XXX MDCCCXXXI Died January IV MDCCCCII." Additionally, bronze lettering at the base commemorates Leyland's wife, who passed away in 1910. The tomb is set upon a stone plinth and is enclosed by finely crafted wrought iron railings that have lilyhead finials at the corners.
