Description
The Tomb of George Godwin, located in Brompton Cemetery, was constructed around 1888. It features a rectangular pedestal base with a central pillar that is decorated with a bas relief portrait medallion and tools, topped by a lamp of knowledge. On either side of the column are sculptural figures in classical robes, representing the muses of literature and architecture. George Godwin was an architect and served as the editor of The Builder, a leading architectural journal, for 40 years. He also founded and managed the Art Union of London.
