Description

These are a pair of semi-detached houses located on Highbury Crescent, dating from approximately 1848-1849. They were developed by James Wagstaffe and James Goodbody, and were likely designed by Wagstaffe. The buildings are constructed from brick, stucco, and slate roofs. They are three storeys high with a half-basement, each featuring four windows. The houses are stepped back between the second and third bays, and again between the third and fourth.

The basement and ground floor are stuccoed and feature banded rustication. A flight of steps leads to a flat-arched entrance, set back under a Greek Doric porch in the outermost bay of No.7; the columns are no longer fluted. All windows are flat-arched, with the first-floor windows having stucco architraves. The architraves have consoles and cornices to the inner two windows, a console and pediment to the third, and a simple architrave to the fourth. The second floor has plain architraves. The windows are original sashes, with margin lights to the ground floor. The eaves are boxed with brackets, and the roof is hipped; No. 8 has a balcony on brackets with a cast-iron window-guard on the third window of the ground floor. Alterations include the raising of the outer wings of both houses to eaves level at the rear.
