Description

No. 57 White Lion Street is a detached house built in the late 18th century. It features yellow stock bricks arranged in Flemish bond, with stucco and cement dressings. The roof has been partially burnt out and is obscured by parapets, with brick stacks at the ends. The house has an off-centre entrance-hall plan and stands four storeys tall with a basement, presenting a double-fronted façade with a range of four windows. The windows have gauged-brick flat arches and are fitted with 2/2 sashes that include margin lights; however, the arches on the first and third floors are obscured by wide cement bands, and several sashes have broken glazing. The height of the sashes decreases as they ascend the building. A cement parapet crowns the structure. Steps lead up to an elegant ground-floor Doric prostyle portico with an open pediment, which shelters a recessed round-arched doorway featuring a patterned fanlight and a panelled door. The sashes on the right end wall and the rear façade are damaged, and there are rear extensions.
