Description

A row of five terraced houses in a square, built around 1825 to 1828. The houses are constructed from yellow and brown stock bricks laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with simple stucco dressings and banded stucco to the ground floors. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet, with brick party-wall stacks. Each house is three storeys high and has two windows. The design includes a side-hall entrance with a staircase; number 29 has a side entrance to Stonefield Street. Otherwise, a low set of steps lead to the entrance in the left bay. The doorways have 1/4 fluted column jambs supporting a corniced head, and panelled doors (replacements from the 20th century for numbers 29 and 30). The fanlights above the doors are curved and radial (number 29), patterned (numbers 30 and 31), or plain (numbers 32 and 33). The ground floor windows are round-arched sashes with one pane per sash. The upper floors feature gauged brick flat-arches above two-pane sashes. The first floor has a stucco sill band and full-length sashes set in arched recesses linked by stucco impost bands. Coupled balconies are supported by iron brackets and have wrought-iron railings. There's been extensive patching and rebuilding to the upper floors, including a plain brick parapet with stone coping. Attached iron area railings are also part of the property.
