Description
A row of five terraced houses, numbers 2 to 6, built around 1825 to 1828, located on the south-east side of Cloudesley Square. The houses are constructed of yellow and brown stock bricks in a Flemish bond pattern, with simple stucco dressings and banded stucco to the ground floor. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet, with brick party-wall stacks. The houses are three storeys high, with two windows to each property.
The design incorporates a side-hall entrance plan with a staircase. Steps lead to the entrance in the right-hand property (number 6), which also has an entrance to the Cloudesley Street façade. The doorway features jambs with ¼ fluted columns supporting a corniced head, a panelled door (a 20th-century replacement in number 6), and a fanlight (patterned with curved and radial glazing bars in numbers 2 and 5). The ground floor has round-arched 1/1 sash windows, with number 4 having 7/6 sashes incorporating curved and radial glazing bars. Upper floor windows are 2/2 sashes with gauged brick flat arches, while number 4 has 6/6 sashes. The first floor features a stucco sill band to full-length sashes set in arched recesses, linked by stucco impost bands, and includes coupled balconies with wrought-iron railings. The brick parapet shows some patching work and indications of rebuilding, and has a stone coping. Attached iron area railings are present.
