Description

This is a pair of semi-detached villas located on Liverpool Road, Islington, dating from the 1820s. The brick facade is covered in stucco, topped by a Welsh-slate hipped roof with side dormers. The houses are two storeys high with a basement, and each has three windows, with the outer bay recessed. The ground floor is rusticated, featuring round-arched windows with radiating heads. The windows have six panes to the sashes, with curved and radial glazing bars set within an arched recessed panel. There’s incised decoration below the sills. Steps lead to a round-arched entrance in the outer bay – number 340 has a six-panelled door flanked by fluted quarter columns supporting a corniced head, while number 338 has a 20th-century door within an altered frame. The first floor has a moulded storey band, bracketed architraves to windows, and six-over-six sashes. A dentilled cornice band sits below projecting eaves. A central stack punctuates the roofline.
