Description
This is a terrace of six houses, numbered 26 to 32, dating from the early 19th century. They are located on St James's Walk and one house has a return frontage to Sans Walk. The houses are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco finishes to parts of the facades. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet. Each house has three storeys over a basement and features two windows.
The basements, ground floors, and returns to Sans Walk are stuccoed. The ground floor of number 26 is scored to resemble ashlar. Numbers 26, 28, and 30 have decorative wooden pilasters, a fascia, and a cornice, suggesting a former retail use. Each has an entrance with an overlight; number 26’s has decorative glazing, and its door is of the original design. Number 30 boasts a round-arched entrance with a cornice, fanlight with decorative glazing, and a panelled door of original design, while number 32 has a round-arched entrance in Sans Walk with a fanlight. The ground-floor windows of numbers 26 and 28 are broad, flat-arched, and have 8/8 sash windows of original design (number 28), while number 30 has round-arched windows, and number 32 has flat-arched windows. All upper-floor windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads. Chimney stacks are located within the party walls. Attached area railings feature urn standards and spearhead finials.
