Description

This is a terrace of six houses, numbers 7 to 16, dating back to circa 1836. They are constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco and roofs of Welsh and artificial slate. The houses are arranged in pairs, with a recessed inner bay of two storeys with a dormer and a more forward-set outer entrance bay of two storeys, each having two windows. A basement and ground floor are stuccoed, the ground floor decorated with chamfered rustication. Steps lead up to round-arched entrances, each with a simple doorcase, fanlight, and a panelled door of original design. Ground floor windows are flat-arched and tripartite. A decorative stucco band marks the end of the storey. The first floor inner window is also flat-arched and tripartite, with a cornice supported by consoles and a balcony with cast-iron railings. The outer window, above the entrance, is round-arched with original sash windows featuring radiating glazing bars; this cornice is simplified. A blocking course is present, and a dormer window is visible on the mansard roof of the inner bay. A chimney stack is located on the party wall between the houses.

Specific features distinguish individual houses: number 7 has a Doric porch of two columns within a rectangular frame, with a modified entablature, cornice, and blocking course. The first-floor window over the entrance has been altered, and a dormer is located on the entrance bay's mansard roof. Numbers 8 and 9 retain decorative glazing in their fanlights, and lack the cornice on the first-floor window consoles; number 9 also has original sash windows to its first-floor inner window. Number 10 also lacks the cornice on consoles and has its first-floor inner window reglazed. Number 12 has replacement sash windows to the first-floor window over the entrance. Numbers 13 and 14 retain original sash windows to the first-floor inner window, while number 14 has decorative glazing to its fanlight. Number 15 features decorative glazing to its fanlight, original sash windows to the inner window, and paterae decoration to its frieze. Number 16 lacks the cornice on consoles to its inner window, and also has original sash windows. The original cornice is missing from the inner bay of number 15 and the entire structure of number 16.
