Description

This building, formerly a cookery and laundry facility, was constructed around 1892 as part of the Hugh Myddelton Schools, located on the west side of the school yard. It is built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco and red brick dressings, and a tiled roof. The building has three storeys and originally four windows. A flat-arched entrance on the south side is framed by a stone architrave inscribed "COOKERY & LAUNDRY". The windows are flat-arched, with heads of gauged red brick and red brick dressings, mullions, and transoms. On the first floor, the two central windows are recessed beneath elliptical arches, which are set within twin stone-coped dormers topped with ball finials. The roof is half-hipped and gableted, with stacks at the north-east and north-west corners. A two-storey wing extends to the north, featuring a cantilevered and rendered upper floor and a hipped slate roof; this appears to be an addition. The building is included in the listing for its group value within the wider school complex.
