Boundary Wall, Kingsway College Clerkenwell Close

The boundary wall of Kingsway College, located on Clerkenwell Close, is a significant structure that includes parts of the former Middlesex House of Detention built in 1847. This wall has undergone repairs and alterations, particularly in 1893 and 1902, when it became part of the boundary for the former Hugh Myddelton Schools. The wall runs along the entire site on Skinner Street and Clerkenwell Close, extending from the School Keeper's House to the eastern end of an outbuilding from around 1892 in Sans Walk. It is constructed of brown and yellow brick, primarily laid in English bond, and features tiled coping, occasional brick piers topped with stone, and buttresses on the inner sides. There are entrances for 'Special Girls' and 'Girls and Infants' on Skinner Street, as well as for 'Girls and Infants' and 'Cookery & Laundry' on Clerkenwell Close, all adorned with stone architraves and wrought-iron gates.
