Description
Nos 24 to 48 on Southwood Lane are a range of houses built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are two and three storeys tall, with the road-facing fronts covered in stucco or cement, and many have been significantly altered, particularly the middle block which dates from around 1840. The rear of the houses overlooks the steep slope of Highgate Hill to the east and, while plain, creates a nearly symmetrical terrace. The buildings are constructed of brown brick with stuccoed ground and first floors. They feature three storeys, with four-storey blocks at both ends and a central block that has a full-height, flattened segmental bay, likely from around 1840, on the left side. Some windows have iron balconies, but a few have been altered and some glazing bars are missing. Additionally, one or two mansard attics have been added. Nos 24 to 50 and No 54 form a cohesive group.
