Description
This is a house located at 9 View Road, built in 1899 by Michael Bunney for the Misses Pearson. The structure is made of red brick laid in English bond, with roofs covered in concrete tiles and machine tiles.
The east front of the house has two storeys, featuring a four-window range on the first floor and a five-window range on the ground floor. The windows are 4/4 horned sashes, with those on the ground floor set under gauged skewback arches that include keyblocks. There is an additional half-glazed scullery door added around 1920 to the right. The roof is hipped with sloping side roofs, all adorned with a continuous modillion eaves cornice, and there is a central stack on the front roof slope.
On the rear elevation, there is a four-window range that includes a full-height canted bay window to the right. All windows here are 4/4 horned sashes, except for the ground floor of the canted bay, which features 1/1 horned sashes and a half-glazed door. The rear also has a two-bay loggia supported by square timber posts and topped with a glazed sloping roof. To the left of this elevation, there is a two-panelled doorway beneath a plain overlight, and the modillion eaves cornice continues. There is one flat-topped dormer fitted with a 2-light casement window, along with one stack.
The main entrance is located in the south return, featuring a six-panelled door with the lower two panels flush. Above the door is a three-light overlight, and a modillion hood is supported by scrolled brackets. There are single-light casements to the right and left of the entrance, and a third single-light casement to the right of the elevation. Two flat-topped dormers are present, one with a 2-light casement and the other with a single-light casement.
The north return includes single- and two-light casements serving offices, along with one flat-topped dormer that has a 3-light casement to light the staircase.
Inside, the house features a central hall with a closed-string staircase leading north, which has turned balusters and a moulded ramped handrail. An archway to the left leads to service areas, while two similar archways to the south provide access from the external doorway and the drawing room. The ground floor has three-panel doors, all with extended lintels that serve as picture rails, while the first floor features four-panelled doors.
