Description

Nos 1 to 6 St Peter's Square is a terrace of houses built around 1825-1830. The houses are made of stucco and consist of three storeys plus a basement, with each house featuring three windows across the front. The center house in each trio is set back and has a projecting Ionic colonnade on the ground floor, with an iron balustrade above. The houses on either side have two bays that project beneath a pediment, while the outermost bays are recessed and feature projecting Ionic porches. Each house has balconies with tented canopies above. There are string courses between the storeys, and a cornice and blocking course at the top. The windows are square-headed and mostly sashed, except for the ground floor, which has French windows that open onto the balconies with iron balustrades. Most of the glazing bars are still in place. Nos 1 and 3 have one bay extensions. This terrace is part of a cohesive architectural scheme that includes Nos 7 to 19, 22 to 39, and 44 to 46 in succession.
