Description

This is a terrace of houses, located at 22-29 and 29A St Peter’s Square, W6, built around 1825 to 1830. The terrace is composed of three linked symmetrical groups. The houses are constructed of stucco, and have three storeys over a basement. Most houses are three windows wide, though number 22 has six. The central three bays of each group are recessed, featuring a projecting Ionic colonnade on the ground floor and an iron balustrade above. Two bays to either side project forward beneath a pediment, while the outermost bays are recessed and feature advanced Ionic porches at ground floor level. Balconies are located above the porches, each with a tented canopy. The façade is punctuated by string courses between the storeys, topped by a cornice and blocking course. The windows are square-headed and sashed, with French windows on the ground floor that open onto the balconies with iron balustrades. The majority of the original glazing bars have been retained. The terrace is part of a larger, cohesive architectural plan that includes numbers 1 to 19, 30 to 39, and 44 to 46, all situated consecutively.
