Description

A terrace of three houses at 36, 37, and 38 St Peter’s Square, dating from approximately 1825 to 1830. The houses are built of stucco and arranged as a single, symmetrical facade. They are three storeys high with a basement. Each house is three windows wide. The central house is recessed and features a projecting Ionic colonnade to the ground floor, supported by an iron balustrade above. The houses on either side have two bays that project beneath a pediment, while the outermost bays are recessed and incorporate advanced Ionic porches. Balconies are situated above the porches, each with a tented canopy. Horizontal string courses define the levels, topped by a cornice and blocking course. The windows are square-headed and sash windows; the ground floor windows are French windows opening onto balconies with iron balustrades. Most of the original glazing bars have been preserved. The terrace forms part of a cohesive architectural scheme alongside numbers 1 to 19, 22 to 35, 39, and 44 to 46 on St Peter’s Square.
