Description

Nos. 96 and 98 Downham Road is a mid-19th century pair of houses, each two storeys high with a basement and two windows. They are constructed of stock brick and feature a stuccoed frieze, cornice, and blocking course, as well as a stuccoed basement. The sash windows, which have moulded architraves and glazing bars, have mostly been replaced. There are four steps leading to the doors; No. 96 has a four-panel door, while No. 98 has a door with two long panels and a rectangular fanlight, both set within prostyle Ionic porches. The ground floor windows are protected by cast iron guards decorated with anthemion and palmette patterns. Additionally, there are added wrought iron screen gates on either side of the properties.
