Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of buildings located on Northchurch Road. They are two storeys high with a full-height basement, each featuring a single window and are deeper than the surrounding buildings. The facades are stuccoed, with low-pitched slate roofs. The ground floors and basements are banded and rusticated, creating the appearance of voussoirs around the windows, with vermiculate key blocks. Ionic pilasters rise from a first-floor band to the eaves. The first-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within moulded architraves. The ground-floor casement windows, featuring margin lights, have console bracketed cornices and ornate cast iron balconies. The entrances are on the returns of the building, accessed via long flights of steps. Numbers 37 to 63 (odd numbers) form a group.
