Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of buildings on Northchurch Road. They are two storeys high with a basement, and each has two windows. The buildings have low-pitched slate roofs with eaves soffits. They are constructed of stock brick with banded stucco on the ground floor and basement. The first-floor windows have gauged flat brick arches. The sash windows originally had bars, and now have cast iron guards. The front doors are four-panel doors with pilasters, a cornice, and a console bracketed cornice above. The door of number 54 has been modernised. These buildings contribute to the group value of the street. Nos 40 to 54 (even), along with Nos 56 and 58, form a group of local interest.
