Description

Nos. 75 and 77 Broadway Market is a house with a shop, built around 1830 and now divided into two properties. The building is made of painted brick and features a stone-coped parapet. It is two storeys high and three windows wide, with a shop located to the right. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars set in round-arched recesses, which are topped with gauged flat brick arches. The left recess of No. 75 has been blocked at the upper part. The ground floor of No. 75 features a wide modern plate-glass shop window, while No. 77 boasts a well-preserved contemporary shopfront. This shopfront is framed by reeded pilasters with paterae heads and includes a six-panel double door with original iron bars outside the fanlight. To the right, there is a canted oriel bay window with glazing bars on the angles. Above the shopfront is a rounded fascia, which is topped by a projecting cornice with a reeded soffit and paterae at intervals. The interior of the building retains original features such as a plank and muntin partition, skirtings, and architraves. Nos. 75 to 81 (odd) are recognized as a group.
