Description

The Unitarian Chapel, dating to the 18th and 19th centuries, is a building of group value located on Newington Green. The chapel's facade is of mid-19th century appearance, presenting as a single-story structure with a prominent central door and flanking windows facing the road. The building is rendered in stucco and features angle pilasters, an entablature, and a wide pediment. The central bay projects slightly. The main entrance is a modern double door where an earlier fanlight was blocked, and is framed by a scrolled architrave containing the inscription "Erected A.D.1708, enlarged A.D.1860." Round-arched windows with margin lights are set within moulded architraves accentuated by tall key blocks. A mid-19th century Sunday School extension is situated behind the main chapel building. The chapel forms a group with numbers 35 to 39, and 35A and 36A, along with the forecourt wall.
