Description
COLLEGE STREET EC4 1. 5002 (South Side) No 29 (Innholders' Hall) [Formerly listed under Little College Street (Dowgate Hill)] TQ 3280 NE 16/423 4.1.50.

- 1670, front block wholly or partly rebuilt in 1886 (?). Alterations after damage in World War II. Front block with return to Whittington Garden, in late C17 style, of red brick and Portland stone. 3 storeys. Cornice and parapet to roof. Entrance with brick pilasters and shaped pediment above carved coat of arms. Small original doorway of carved wood incorporated into later door. Flanking consoles and drops: scroll pediment. Incorporated into interior is Old Court Room with rich plaster ceiling dated 1670, intact panelling and good chimneypiece. Above it the New Courtroom has an enriched ceiling of mid C18 character and perhaps of that date, but no other old fittings. In staircase window is stained glass of late Cl7. The hall has plain, late C17 panelling but a modern ceiling. Refixed gallery in north-east corner. Modern, square headed window to south set externally in patched brickwork, partly original. Scheduled AM.
