Description

20 and 21 Warren Street are a pair of terraced houses, now converted into one at ground floor level, dating from around 1792. They are built of yellow stock brick, which has been patched, and rise to four storeys with a basement, featuring two windows each. No. 20 has a renovated wooden shopfront with a segmental-bowed, bracketed window and a modillion cornice. The house door to the right has a radial patterned overlight and a panelled door flanked by slim half columns. No. 21 has a late 20th-century replica of the shopfront of No. 20. Both houses have gauged brick flat arches above the recessed sashes and a parapet.

Inside, No. 20 retains many original features, including door architraves, doors, skirtings, dado rails, shutters, and a dog-leg stick baluster staircase with fret cut tread ends. There are two timber Adamesque fireplaces on the first floor, full-height panelling in the basement, three-quarters height panelling in the staircase hall at ground floor level, and dado panelling on the stairs above. No. 21 was not inspected.
