Description

186 and 187 Drury Lane are a pair of terraced houses with later shops, built in the early 18th century and refaced in the late 18th century. They are constructed of multi-coloured stock brick and rise to four storeys, with two windows each.

No. 186 features a 20th-century timber shopfront that includes panelled risers, a plate glass window, double panelled and part-glazed doors, a fascia, and a cornice. The house door is panelled and has an overlight. No. 187 has an early 19th-century shopfront with flat bay windows on either side of a central part-glazed door, which also has an overlight. This shopfront includes an inswept frieze and a projecting cornice. The recessed house door to the left has a reeded surround with stops. The glazing in the shop has been altered.

On the upper floors, there are gauged red brick flat arches above recessed sash windows. No. 186 has four-pane windows, except for the first floor, which has late 20th-century glazing. Both houses have parapets.

The interiors have not been inspected but are noted to retain some good panelled rooms. No. 187 features an original staircase with a closed string, turned balusters, and square newels, while No. 186 has an original staircase that is boxed in.
