Description

Numbers 20-24 are five houses that form part of a terrace built around 1824 by Thomas Cubitt. They are constructed from darkened yellow stock brick with a stucco ground floor, and Nos 23 and 24 feature rusticated detailing. The buildings rise four storeys and include basements, with three windows each. They retain the remains of a formerly symmetrical facade, with Nos 23 and 24 serving as the projecting end bays. The doorways are square-headed, featuring panelled jambs, cornice-heads, fanlights, and panelled doors. There are continuous cast-iron balconies above the first-floor casements. The second and third floors have recessed sash windows with gauged brick flat arches, while the upper storey windows of Nos 23 and 24 are architraved, and the first floor windows have cornices. A simplified modillion cornice runs along the top. The interiors have not been inspected. The houses are complemented by attached cast-iron railings with foliated finials in front of the areas.
