Description

A pair of semi-detached cottages located on Redington Road, dating from 1876 and designed by the architect Philip Webb for William Chisholm. They were built by the Ashby Brothers. The ground floor is constructed of yellow stock brick, while the first floor is tile hung. The roof is tiled, with gabled, tile-hung dormers, tall slab chimney stacks, and overhanging eaves. The cottages are two storeys and have attics, each featuring two windows. Recessed porches are present, with 5-ring brick arches above. The ground floor has four-light canted bay windows, supported by brick pilasters and featuring a cornice; No. 4 has a pediment. The windows are recessed sashes, and the first floor windows have louvred shutters. The interiors were not inspected, but both cottages are believed to retain original stairs with winders, newels, and balustrades. Some original fireplaces remain, along with wood overmantels and cast-iron grates, notably in the dining room of No. 2, which features original painted tiles.
