Description
No. 27 Hampstead High Street is a terraced house with a later shop, dating from the early 18th century. It was refronted in the early 19th century and has undergone alterations in the 20th century. The building is finished in stucco and features a first-floor string course. It has a tiled mansard roof with a 20th-century dormer, and it stands three storeys tall with an attic, containing one window.
The shopfront projects and has chamfered surrounds around its openings. There is a show window with a cast-iron ornamental grille below and a 20th-century fascia. The doorways have overlights, and there is a panelled house door. The upper floors are fitted with tripartite sash windows that have late 19th-century moulded surrounds. The building is topped with a bracketed cornice and a blocking course.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to retain some panelling with box cornices. It also features a good early 18th-century staircase with a closed string, turned balusters, and column newels.
