Description
Numbers 42 and 44 are two terraced houses located on Maple Street, built around 1777 to 1787. They are constructed from darkened stock brick, with some later patching, and rise to four storeys with basements, featuring two windows each.
Number 42 has a stucco ground floor and a first-floor band. Its square-headed doorway is adorned with stucco pilasters that support an entablature, and it includes a fanlight above a panelled door. The windows have gauged red brick flat arches and recessed sashes. A parapet crowns the building.
Number 44 has a painted ground floor and features a round-arched doorway flanked by fluted pilaster-jambs that support a cornice head. It also has a radial patterned fanlight and a panelled door. The windows are similar to those of number 42, with gauged red brick flat arches and recessed sashes that retain their original glazing bars. This house also has a parapet.
The properties are complemented by attached cast-iron railings with torch flambe finials in front of the areas. The interiors have not been inspected.
