Description

Numbers 39-45 Fitzroy Street are a terrace of four houses dating from the late 18th century. They are built of darkened, multi-coloured stock brick with some later patching, and have a plain stucco band at first-floor level. The houses are four storeys high with basements, and each has three windows, except for number 45, which has two windows and a three-window return from a splayed corner. Each house has a round-arched doorway with stucco impost blocks and keystones, cornice heads, fanlights, and panelled doors. Number 45 has a wooden shopfront with pilasters supporting an entablature with a projecting cornice. Gauged brick flat arches, some reddened, are above the recessed sash windows, with cast-iron balconies to the first floor, except at number 45. The houses have parapets. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials are present to the areas.
