Description

No. 13 Northington Street is a brewery stable building, now used as offices and a workshop, dated 1903. It was built for Henry Finch and underwent internal alterations in the late 20th century. The structure is made of red brick with stone quoins and dressings and stands two storeys tall.

The main facade facing Northington Street features five windows, with a five-window right-hand return that includes a vehicle entrance. On the ground floor to the left, there are paired elliptical arched vehicle entrances with keystones and cornices on the pillars. To the right, there is a flat arched doorway, a vehicle entrance, and three segmental-arched windows, the one nearest the vehicle entrance being half-size.

A projecting moulded brick cornice is present at both the first floor and parapet levels, with first-floor casements set in stone surrounds that form strips. The deep parapet has segmental-headed sections flanked by tall tapering brick chimneys supported by stone consoles on the front and sides, which also feature stone cornices. The angles of the building have smaller stone tapering chimneys on dies.

The interiors retain some original features. There are also subsidiary features, including a quoin on Northington Street inscribed with "These premises were erected by Henry Finch Esq., JP in AD 1903," and on the return, it reads "and this stone laid by H. Finch Rober August 10th 1903."
