Description

Numbers 25 and 26 are a pair of terraced houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from yellow stock brick and feature a plain stucco band at the first floor sill. The houses rise three storeys and have basements, with two windows each. The doorways are topped with gauged brick round arches that have stucco keystones and impost bands, and they include 20th-century radial fanlights and panelled doors. The recessed sashes have gauged brick flat arches, and the first floor is adorned with attractive cast-iron balconies with margin glazing. Above the windows, there is a parapet with recessed panels. The interiors have not been inspected. The houses are complemented by attached low brick garden walls with spearhead finials, along with gate piers and gates. Historically, these houses were known as Langham Place, and Number 25 was briefly the home of the artist John Constable and his family.
