Description

Numbers 162-168 and attached railings are a pair of semi-detached houses dating from the early 19th century. They are built of yellow stock brick, with three storeys and basements. Each house has two windows. The ground floor features round-arched openings. Numbers 162, 166 and 168 have rusticated stucco side porticoes. Fanlights and panelled doors are present. Number 164 has cast-iron hoods over the windows and originally over the entrance. Plain stucco bands define the first-floor level. Gauged brick flat arches frame the recessed sash windows; the first floor incorporates cast-iron balconies. Number 164 retains a rare wooden verandah on its first floor, featuring three round arches, intricate fretwork, trellis ends, and a metal hood. The houses have parapets. The interiors were not inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials mark the areas. The railings contribute to the group value of the buildings.
