Description
Crofts Place is a house dating from the late 16th century, with significant alterations made in the mid-19th century. It has two storeys and attics, featuring a timber-framed structure that is cased in red brick and extended to both the east and west. The roof is covered with plain clay tiles. The mid-19th century includes sash windows and casements with brick label moulds. On the western side, there is a 19th-century bay that has an oriel supported by a brick-corbelled cill, and another gabled section with decorative timber framing on brackets. The entrance is marked by a two-storey brick porch from the 19th century. The core of the house has five bays with close-studding, diamond-mullioned blocked windows, and a clasped-purlin roof with wind-bracing. Crofts Place is located outside the moated site of Little Saxham Hall, which was built around 1530 and demolished in 1773. To the north and east of the house are sections of well-preserved 16th or 17th century red brick wall, along with a two-arched bridge over the moat that is in poor condition and not of special interest.
