Description

Nos. 56 and 56A Sparkes Farm are two houses that were formerly a farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century with mid-19th century alterations. The buildings are two storeys tall and originally had an attic. They are timber-framed and the front is clad with asbestos cement sheets, which were in place at the time of the survey, though they were previously rendered. The gable facing the road is constructed of flint and brick rubble, featuring quoins made of red and gault brick, along with a parapet gable. The roof is thatched and has gable and axial chimneys made of red brick. The windows are primarily mid-19th century casements, with one small-pane sash window. The entrance door is a four-panelled design with an architrave and a cornice supported by console brackets. Additionally, there is a small cross-wing made of flint rubble and gault brick, along with extensions to the rear that were added in the mid-19th century.
