Description
Hanchet End Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed with a timber frame, which is plastered and colourwashed, and features plain tile and slate roofs with brick stacks, including one external stack against the east gable end. The building has an L-shaped plan consisting of two distinct blocks, and all elevations are panelled with pilaster strips.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. The main elevation faces the street to the north and is accessed through a six-panelled door set within a panelled doorcase that is covered by a hood. On either side of the door, there is an 8/8 unhorned sash window, with two similar sashes located above on the second floor. The cross wing to the west is lit by two single-light 20th-century casements on the ground floor and a two-light 20th-century casement on the first floor. The north gable retains a five-light diamond-mullioned window on the ground floor. The rear elevation features a three-window range with sash windows on both floors; the left ground-floor window has been replaced with a 19th-century canted bay window. The west elevation of the cross wing has a central door and mixed fenestration, primarily consisting of 20th-century casements, but it also includes two three-part 19th-century sliding casements, one on each floor. The interior has not been inspected.
