Description
Popefield Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with late 19th-century window alterations and restoration that took place around 1980. The building features a timber frame with a painted brick ground floor and plastered upper floors, topped with plain tile roofs. It stands two storeys high with attics. The front of the farmhouse has two wide gable ends and a narrow one-window centre, along with a one-window, two-storey wing on the right. All windows are flush glazing bar sashes, with the gable ends and wing having triple hung sashes, while the central sash is single hung. There is a flush panel door located beneath the stack, which is a tall red brick stack with a cruciform plan and an arris on the front face. A continuous plank band runs above the ground floor. The rear elevation is fully plastered. There is a 17th-century painted brick extension that continues on the right side, connecting to a 19th-century barn range. Inside, the house features a good oak newel staircase that rises to the attic behind the stack.
