Description
The barn range northwest of Popefield Farmhouse consists of two barns in a long layout, connected to the farmhouse by a single-storey extension at a right angle. The barns date from the late 17th century and were altered and extended in the 18th century. They are constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, topped with a plain tile roof. The larger barn on the right, from the 17th century, features a central gabled cart entrance and has an interior with seven bays, the central bay being slightly larger. It has a queen strut roof with clasped purlins. To the left is a three-bay extension from the late 18th century, which is accessed from the rear and built in a similar style. The link to the farmhouse is from the 19th century and also has a plain tile roof.
