Description
Dorset Cottage is an 18th-century cottage that stands two storeys tall. It features a timber-framed structure with roughcast and is topped by a steeply-hipped thatched roof. An external plain red brick chimney-stack is located on the south wall, and there is a single-storey brick and pantiled lean-to addition along the west wall. The ground storey has two 3-light 20th-century windows, while the upper storey has two 2-light plain casements. A fully enclosed 20th-century gabled porch is present at the front. Inside, the cottage displays typical 18th-century softwood framing, including primary braces and bisected studs. The roof structure is distinctive, featuring a short ridge-piece, no principal rafters, and clasped purlins, with the hips ending in a gablet at the apex, resembling a dovecot roof. There is an early 19th-century extension on the north side of the cottage, which has a second chimney-stack and now functions as a separate house; this extension is not included in the listing.
