Description
Grindle Cottage is a house dating from the 15th century, with later additions. It has one storey and attics, featuring a three-cell plan. The structure is timber-framed and roughcast, topped with a thatched roof and an internal chimney stack with a plain red brick shaft. On the north side, there are three 19th-century three-light casement windows with a single bar to the lights, along with a very large inserted dormer that has a gabled, thatched roof and a four-light small-paned casement window. The south side includes two plank doors set in small rustic wooden porches. The west gable wall is bricked up to the eaves level. Inside, the two main posts of the central truss of the open hall remain, along with the lower part of an arched brace, although the tie-beam above has been removed. The heavy main beam of the inserted hall ceiling is supported by posts positioned to one side of the main posts of the open truss, while other timbers are covered.
